Arsenal need a 'slap in the face', claims icon Martin Keown after disastrous Slavia Prague draw.

Image
The Gunners legend was left incensed by his old side's performance as they laboured to a 1-1 draw with Slavia Prague at Emirates Stadium. Slavia were allowed to settle in the first half, looking confident after twice winning on British soil already this year against Rangers and Leicester. Nicolas Pepe did finally break the deadlock in the 86th minute, before disaster struck deep into stoppage time, when Tomas Holes struck in the 93rd minute to grab a crucial equaliser and away goal. And Keown was not happy with how Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta approached the game. He told BT Sport: "For me it was about Arsenal tonight, and about the way they played and imposed themselves on the opposition. And by sitting off early in the encounter, I thought they had chosen the wrong tactics, and there was an opportunity to do that tonight. "You're the home team, so you take the initiative, and you ask them the question, can you play? Can you pass out from the back? We'll see how...

Predicted Arsenal lineup to face Slavia Prague with all eyes on Saka and Lacazette

Image
Arsenal’s journey in the UEFA Europa League will continue on Thursday when the gunners welcome Slavia Prague at the Emirates Stadium and they will come into this game, just a few days after their defeat to the Premier League Champions Liverpool. So here is the predicted lineup of the North Londoners with all eyes on Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette. PREDICTED ARSENAL LINEUP TO FACE SLAVIA PRAGUE TEXT FORM: Leno, Cedric, Gabriel, Holding, Bellerin. Xhaka. Partey, Saka, Smith Rowe, Willian, Lacazette GOALKEEPING: Bernd Leno was far from being the worst player on the pitch on Saturday when the gunners got beat 3-0 by Liverpool and so he should be in goal against the Czech side. DEFENCE: Kieran Tierney got injured in the previous match after a collision and the club has recently confirmed that he will be out for four to six weeks and there is high chance that Mikel Arteta might use Cedric in the left back position on Sunday while Bellerin plays on the opposite fullback place. Gabr...

Big blow as Arteta unsure if Tierney will play again this season after ligament damage.

Image
Mikel Arteta is unsure if Kieran Tierney will play for Arsenal again this season after the left-back was ruled out for four to six weeks with ligament damage to his left knee. The full-back limped off during the Gunners' disappointing 3-0 reverse at home to Liverpool on Saturday and required further checks on the severity of the issue. An Arsenal statement said Tierney will not require surgery on the injury but with the Premier League campaign coming to an end on May 23, he may not feature again for Arsenal this term. It is also unfortunate timing for Scotland, who play their first match of the rescheduled Euro 2020 finals against the Czech Republic on June 14, with the first of two warm-up fixtures taking place against the Netherlands on June 2. "It could have been worse, he's feeling better, the damage is not that bad," Arteta said when previewing the first leg of Arsenal's Europa League quarter-final tie against Slavia Prague. "We have to go day by day to ...

Porto vs Chelsea FC: Uefa Champions League team news and prediction.

Image
C helsea  must tonight immediately recover from  Thomas Tuchel ’s first loss as manager as they travel to face  Porto  in the first leg of their  Champions League  quarter-final. A remarkable 5-2 loss to West Brom, in which Thiago Silva was sent off, was in stark contrast to their recent performances based on rearguard wins, none more so than beating Atletico Madrid home and away in the last round. Porto were the team to get in the draw but are no pushovers after eliminating Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus. Date, time and venue Porto vs Chelsea is scheduled for an 8pm BST kick-off on Saturday, April 10, 2021. The match will be held behind closed doors at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville due to coronavirus travel restrictions. Porto vs Chelsea team news Chelsea will have Christian Pulisic and N'Golo Kante fit to face Porto after overcoming hamstring issues. Tammy Abraham will also be in the squad after being left out of Saturday's 5-2 loss to West Bro...

Thomas Tuchel's pre Porto press conference.

Image
What's the latest team news, are N'Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic and Tammy Abraham fit? "They are fit enough to be in the squad and will be in the squad, all three. That's good news. Christian went off [against West Brom] before injury could happen. He said at half time that if he continued there would be an injury so we took him off. "Tammy is in the squad, and NG just did his last test and will be on the bench. He feels very comfortable, comfortable enough to be on the bench." Was the bust-up between Antonio Rudiger and Kepa because of Saturday's heavy defeat? "No, I would tell you if it was but it was not. It was nothing to do with the defeat, it was just an incident in training. "It got heated between Toni and Kepa so we calmed the situation down immediately. I don't want to play it down with anything artificial, these are things we don't want to accept but they can happen. "They are all competitors and want to win training matc...

Knee surgery set to keep Arsenal star out of action for a month

Image
David Luiz will be a part of Arsenal’s last games of the season despite undergoing knee surgery recently. He had to undergo the procedure at the weekend and surgeries normally rule players out for a long time. The Gunners will play at least 10 more competitive games this season, depending on how far they go in the Europa League and he had been expected to miss those matches. Luiz has been an important part of their team this season with Mikel Arteta trusting the Brazilian to lead his players from the back. He is now expected to be without the former Chelsea defender for the next four weeks. Mail Sport, however, confirms that he will still play some role in Arsenal’s campaign before it ends. Luiz has been plagued by mistakes all his career, but on his day, the Brazilian is one of the best defenders that the Gunners have. In his absence, the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Pablo Mari will have to step up. His return to the field before this season ends will also boost his chance of e...

Mikel Arteta may need to drop Aubameyang for Gabriel Martinelli

Image
Arsenal legend suggests Mikel Arteta may need to drop Aubameyang for Gabriel Martinelli Aubameyang disappoints, again Arsenal’s last outing of course saw them comfortably beaten by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The Merseysiders have had a pretty dire season overall. But were still able to completely dominate Arsenal. And despite Liverpool still having something of a makeshift backline, the Gunners were limited to just three shots all game, only two of which were on target. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was particularly disappointing against the Reds, something Arsenal fans have become too accustomed to seeing this season. Martinelli over Aubameyang Since signing his new contract at the back end of 2020, the Arsenal captain has not looked anywhere close to his best. And now, after another subpar display against Liverpool, Martin Keown has suggested that Mikel Arteta should perhaps look to drop the African or risk losing the respect of his squad: Should Arteta not be dropping him for performing ...

Chelsea training bust-up good for Thomas Tuchel’s side, says Marcos Alonso

Image
Marcos Alonso says the training ground bust-up between Antonio Rudiger and Kepa Arrizabalaga shows the hunger in the Chelsea squad and is a good sign for the Blues. Rudiger and Kepa were involved in an angry confrontation which saw the training session end early for the defender. The squad were back at their Cobham training doing on Sunday following Saturday’s shock 5-2 home defeat to West Brom. A late challenge from Rudiger on Kepa during a training match prompted a shoving match between the two before manager Thomas Tuchel intervened and sent Rudiger back to the changing rooms. It is understood Rudiger has since apologised to Kepa and Tuchel considers the matter closed. In an interview ahead of Wednesday's Champions League tie with Porto, Alonso dismissed the incident as something which has "always happened" and shows that the players are hungry for success. "These are things that happen," Alonso told beIN Sport. "It shows the level of competition that th...

TONY ADAMS CLAIMS MARTINEZ TRANSFER DECISION IS BADLY AFFECTING ONE ARSENAL PLAYER NOW

Image
The Arsenal legend made the comments about the Germany international goalkeeper following his performance against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League at the weekend. The 29-year-old has made mistakes in recent weeks, and he also committed an error – maybe two? – in the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in North London. Adams has said that Arsenal should not have sold Martinez to Aston Villa in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £20 million and should have kept him instead to ease the burden on Leno. The Englishman said about Leno on Stadium Astro, as transcribed by Metro: “We’ve only got Leno, we’re going to play him every single match now until the end of the season and he’s already for me a little bit burnt out “He could’ve really done with a rest and just played the Europa League stage. I wanted them [Leno and Martinez] to fight for the No.1.”. Strange claim Leno has not been exactly great for Arsenal so far this season, but it ...

Andy Cole unsure of direction Arsenal are heading in under Mikel Arteta after Liverpool defeat Read more: https://metro.co.uk/2021/04/04/andy-cole-unsure-of-direction-arsenal-are-heading-in-under-mikel-arteta-14356577/?ito=newsnow-feed?ito=cbshare Twitter: https://twitter.com/MetroUK | Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MetroUK/

Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Andy Cole admits he isn’t sure of the direction Mikel Arteta is leading his side in after their chastening 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday. The Gunners were completely dominated by their opponents at the Emirates and deservedly beaten courtesy of a Diogo Jota brace either side of Mohamed Salah’s smart finish. The result has left Arsenal in ninth place in the Premier League table and nine points off the top four with eight games left to play. Arteta managed to win the FA Cup in his first season as a manager last year but his team’s league form has been inconsistent since he arrived at the Emirates in December 2019. And Cole questioned his former side’s approach to the Liverpool clash and conceded that he is uncertain about the direction they are heading in.  ‘I’m not sure, I’m not quite sure where Arsenal are going to be brutally honest, Cole told talkSPORT. ‘I’m looking at them yesterday, they never laid a glove on Liverpool, ...

Chelsea fans react to Jorginho’s dismal performance vs West Bromwich Albion

Image
A section of Chelsea fans were critical over the performance of Jorginho during yesterday’s embarrassing 5-2 Premier League defeat to West Bromwich Albion at home. The Blues managed to open the scoring in the 27th minute through Christian Pulisic, who pounced on a rebound from a Marcos Alonso free-kick which had hit the woodwork. Just a few minutes later, Thiago Silva received his marching orders for a second yellow card after a needless lunge which made the slightest of contacts with Matheus Pereira. Silva had been booked for fouling Pereira earlier in the game and in both instances, Jorginho was partly at fault for gifting possession with poor back passes. The Blues eventually conceded as Pereira scored with a superb lob over Edouard Mendy in first-half injury time after a wonderful long ball from Sam Johnstone. Before the interval, the visitors doubled the advantage and Jorginho was in the thick of things again with a back header which Pereira pounced upon to find the back of t...

Arsenal could consider Saka sale, Sunday Times say

Image
Arsenal may have to consider selling players, including Bukayo Saka, in order to fund new signings, The Sunday Times say. It comes amid speculation over the future of Martin Odegaard, who has impressed while on loan with the Gunners from Real Madrid.  Arsenal want to sign the midfielder on a permanent deal and other clubs are sure to be interested if Real are willing to let him go. The Sunday Times suggest that could lead to departures from the Emirates Stadium and that England international Saka, 19, could be one of those to go. Meanwhile, The Sun on Sunday have picked up on reports that Arsenal’s Arsenal Reiss Nelson is wanted on loan by Olympiacos and that Chelsea are keen on Juventus forward Adrien Rabiot.

Three Arsenal stars who flopped for Mikel Arteta's side in Liverpool thrashing

Image
Dani Ceballos    Dani Ceballos had a night to forget at the Emirates. With a pass success rate of 78%, he failed to get Arsenal sparking in midfield and was replaced by Mohamed Elneny after 58 minutes. Gunners fans on Twitter lambased his performance, with one tweeting: "Ceballos with one of the worst performances I've ever witnessed from an Arsenal midfielder so far." The Spaniard couldn't keep hold of the ball and was easily dispossessed throughout. If Ceballos at his best represents everything that's good about Arsenal, at his worst he's a lightning rod for everything that is bad. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang was sporting a new haircut against Liverpool. In the end, it worked as a good diversion tactic from the striker's below-par display. His night is best summed up by a single stat - in the first-half, Aubameyang had more touches in his own box than Liverpool's. Arteta didn't help the forward's cause by starting him ...

Rob Holding and Pablo Mari start as Smith Rowe misses out - Arsenal predicted lineup vs Liverpool

Image
Arsenal will be hoping that they show their positive 'face' when Mikel Arteta's side face Liverpool on Saturday. The Premier League match between the two sides provides another opportunity for the Gunners to close the gap on the Reds, as they aim to secure European qualification via finishing in the top six. Arteta himself has already admitted that his side need to improve in several areas if they are to qualify for Europe, with nine games remaining in the league. "One of them is related to the attention and focus that you need during the whole game," he said ahead of Saturday's match. "For example, the way we conceded the second goal against West Ham, where we turned our backs on a free-kick close to our box, is something that we cannot do. It just gives a goal to the opponent. "And there's also the other face, that we really like, the way the team played and reacted, the character we showed and the quality that we provided on the day to come b...

Chelsea team news and injury latest ahead of West Brom clash

Image
Chelsea are back in action on Saturday as they take on West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge. What has seemed like a long international break is now over and the Premier League is returning, with a number of Blues players back in the fold after an impressive break with their countries. The Blues will be hoping that the extended break will not have interrupted their momentum too badly, with Thomas Tuchel's side currently on a 15-game unbeaten run in all competitions. It's the start of an important run of fixtures for Chelsea, with the Champions League quarter-finals against Porto and the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City coming up in the next three weeks, so Tuchel will be hoping to have a full contingent to choose from as he also tries to keep up the pressure in the race for a top-four spot. With that said, here is the latest injury news for Chelsea. Thiago Silva  The centre-back has played a big role this season following his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain...

Arsenal vs Liverpool preview, predicted lineups, score prediction & injury updates

Image
Arsenal are in home action after two-week break from domestic football as they host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Here is the match preview. This is where football puts us in limbo: either we herald the return of Arsenal playing with a superb win, or wish it’d still be international week after a miserable defeat. Mikel Arteta’s side are in a position to dish up either alternative. Facing the champions on Saturday evening would, in normal circumstances, elicit sheer terror into the minds of all supporters. Not so much this time. Jurgen Klopp’s side have won just four of their last 15 league matches, an astounding figure considering the destructiveness of their title-winning campaign last season. Trying to pinpoint exactly what’s going wrong on Merseyside can be linked back to a simple lack of goals, although the roots of their issues run deeper. Arsenal vs Liverpool preview – Saturday’s Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium Arsenal, by contrast, are unbeaten...

Arsenal loanee Torreira wants Boca Juniors move to be closer to family following mother's death

Image
The 25-year-old, currently on loan at Atletico Madrid, wants to return to South America to fulfil a wish from his father. In an emotional interview with ESPN Argentina, the Arsenal midfielder – currently on loan at Atletico Madrid – confirmed his mother had passed after a battle with coronavirus. Torreira says he has long dreamed of playing for Boca, and he intends to fulfil the wish of his father by returning to South Americ a. What has been said? Torreira said: “I am trying to understand the situation. It is difficult to come to terms with it but as time passes, we will come to live with this pain. “My mother was 53 years old and died from Covid. There was an outbreak in Fray Bentos (Torreira's hometown in Uruguay) and she spent 11 days fighting but on Monday morning I received the worst news. “I asked Atletico for some time off. Cholo (manager Diego Simeone) understood everything and they gave me a week, but I asked to stay for a little longer. On Sunday I will probably return...

Jurgen Klinsmann ‘feels for’ Timo Werner after Chelsea striker misses sitter in Germany’s shock defeat to North Macedonia

Image
Jurgen Klinsmann says he ‘feels for’ Timo Werner after the struggling Chelsea striker misses a glorious chance in Germany’s shock defeat to North Macedonia. North Macedonia stunned four-time world champions Germany in their 2022 World Cup qualifier on Wednesday night, with Eljif Elmas’ late goal securing a famous 2-1 win. Goran Pandev put the visitors ahead on the stroke of half-time but it appeared Germany would avoid an upset when Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan equalised with a penalty earlier in the second half. But North Macedonia, ranked 65th in the world, clinched an extraordinary win when Elmas scored with five minutes remaining. Werner, who joined Premier League club Chelsea last summer, missed a sitter to score for the hosts before North Macedonia bagged a winner, somehow firing wide from Gundogan’s pass across goal. ‘This is a situation where you can clearly see he has two or three things in his mind – and in those moments you’re not executing,’ Germany legend Klinsman...

Kieran Tierney make history as he assisted three goals in a single international match.

Image
Kieran Tierney may have just staked his claim to be named Arsenal's best performer during the international break. The left-back has played in all three of Scotland's World Cup qualifiers against Austria, Israel, and the Faroe Islands, but turned on the style on Wednesday night. As the hosts eased to a 4-0 win at Hampden Park, Tierney played a huge role in three of the goals. It took the Arsenal defender just seven minutes to record his first assist of the night as he teed up Aston Villa's John McGinn to break the deadlock and set Scotland on their way to three crucial points. The same pair combined eight minutes into the second half to make it 2-0 before Tierney made it a hat-trick of assists on the hour mark as Che Adams was next to benefit from his service. Interestingly, Tierney's performance came just three days before he and Robertson will line up against each other when Arsenal welcome Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium in a huge Premier League clash. And to buil...
